The Heart and Blood Vessels: Blood's Round Trip

A labelled diagram builds up step by step as it follows the blood. The heart pumps it out through arteries to the body, which uses its oxygen, and veins bring it back. The heart then sends it to the lungs for fresh oxygen from the air you breathe in, and it flows back to the heart. Blood cells then go round the whole trip in time with the heartbeat, with a key explaining that red shows lots of oxygen, blue shows less, and real blood is always red.

What the lesson says
How does your blood get all the way around your body?
Your heart is a strong muscle that pumps blood.
Arteries carry blood away from the heart, out to your body.
Blood carries oxygen all around your body.
Your body uses the oxygen to get energy from food.
In diagrams, blood with lots of oxygen is red, and blood with less is blue.
Real blood is always red, only a darker red when it has less oxygen.
Veins carry the blood back to the heart.
Next, the heart pumps this blood to the lungs.
In the lungs, the blood picks up oxygen from the air you breathe in.
Then the blood flows back to the heart, full of oxygen.
The heart pumps it out to the body again.
With every beat, your heart keeps the blood going round and round.
Blood goes out in arteries and back in veins, delivering oxygen on the way.
