What the lesson says

How do we add 3.75 and 8.6? Let us find out.

First, line up the decimal points, one above the other.

One place is empty. Fill it with a zero. The value stays the same.

Now add each column, starting from the right.

5 plus 0 is 5.

7 plus 6 is 13.

Write 3 and carry 1.

Bring the decimal point straight down.

Now add the whole numbers the same way.

1 plus 3 plus 8 is 12.

Write 2 and carry 1.

There is only one digit here, so bring it straight down.

So 3.75 plus 8.6 equals 12.35.
