Grade 7, Fractions, decimals and percents

Fractions, decimals and percents

Write the same amount as a fraction, a decimal and a percent, then compare.

Three levels

One skill, rising difficulty

Each sheet carries one level. The three are the same skill at rising difficulty, each named for what it practises.

Level 1: From a fraction
Write each fraction as a decimal and as a percent.
Level 2: From a decimal
Write each decimal as a fraction in lowest terms and as a percent.
Level 3: From a percent, and comparing
Write each percent as a decimal and as a fraction in lowest terms. Write percents above 100% as a mixed number. Then compare with <, > or =.

Worked example

How the sheet explains it

The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.

Level 1: From a fraction

7/20 = 0.35 = 35%

  1. Make the bottom 100. Multiply top and bottom by 5: 7/20 = 35/100.
  2. 35/100 is 35 hundredths, so 35/100 = 0.35.
  3. To get the percent, multiply by 100: 0.35 × 100 = 35, so 0.35 = 35%.

Level 2: From a decimal

0.45 = 9/20 = 45%

  1. 0.45 is 45 hundredths: 0.45 = 45/100.
  2. Divide top and bottom by 5 for lowest terms: 45/100 = 9/20.
  3. To get the percent, multiply by 100: 0.45 × 100 = 45, so 0.45 = 45%.

Level 3: From a percent, and comparing

64% = 0.64 = 16/25

  1. To get the decimal, divide by 100: 64 ÷ 100 = 0.64, so 64% = 0.64.
  2. Use the decimal: 0.64 is 64 hundredths, so 64% = 64/100.
  3. Divide top and bottom by 4 for lowest terms: 64/100 = 16/25.
