A cut-away picture of the land fills in step by step: the salty ocean, then fresh water in a river and lake, water filling tiny gaps underground that people reach with a well or that flows out at a spring, and a glacier on the mountain. It shows that most fresh water is frozen in glaciers or underground, with only a little in lakes and rivers, and ends with the recap that water is all around us.

A river is fresh water flowing downhill.

This river flows into a lake.

Fresh water also fills tiny gaps underground.

People dig a well to reach this water.

At a spring, underground water flows out by itself.

A glacier is a huge, slow river of ice.

Most fresh water is frozen in glaciers, or underground.

Lakes and rivers hold just a little of it.
