The sun warms the sea, and one picture builds up step by step, labelled evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff: vapour rises, tiny drops make a cloud, rain and snow fall, and a river carries the water back to the sea. One drop then travels the whole loop, and the video ends on the recap that the sun keeps water going round and round in the water cycle.

Transcript

What the lesson says

Where does the rain come from? Let's follow the water.

The sun shines down and warms the sea.

Some of the warm water turns into vapour. This is called evaporation.

Vapour is a gas we cannot see. It floats up high.

Up high, the vapour cools and turns into tiny drops.

Many tiny drops make a cloud. This is called condensation.

The drops join together and grow big and heavy.

Water falls from the cloud as rain or snow. This is called precipitation.

Rainwater runs downhill into the river. This is called runoff.

The river carries the water back to the sea.

And then it all happens again and again.

The sun keeps the water going round and round. This is the water cycle.
