A "Fitness for health" hub branches out one row at a time to the five health components: heart and lung fitness, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility and body composition, each with a simple picture and an everyday example. It points out the difference between strength (one big effort) and endurance (many efforts in a row) and describes body composition only as what a body is made of. It ends with the recap that each of the five is a different part of being fit.

What the lesson says

What are the five health components of fitness?

They are five parts of fitness that help keep your body healthy.

Heart and lung fitness lets you keep moving for a long time, like on a long bike ride.

Your heart and lungs work together to bring oxygen to your muscles.

Muscle strength is how hard your muscles can push or pull in one big effort, like lifting a heavy box.

Muscle endurance is how many times your muscles can work before they get tired, like doing many sit-ups.

Strength is one big effort, but endurance is many efforts in a row.

Flexibility is how far you can bend and stretch at your joints, like reaching toward your toes.

Body composition is what your body is made of, like muscle, bone, fat and water.

Every body has its own mix of these parts.

Being active in lots of different ways helps all five.

So fitness for health has five components, and each one is a different part of being fit.
