Fifteen apples and twelve pears are matched one to one, and the three apples left without a pear show there are more apples, which counting checks: 15 is more than 12. Then 12, 15 and a group of 9 oranges are placed on a number line from 0 to 20 and read from left to right to put them in order, 9, 12, 15, ending on the recap that numbers get bigger to the right.

What the lesson says

Here are some apples and some pears. Which group has more?

Let's match them, one pear under each apple.

These three apples have no pear to match.

So there are more apples than pears.

Let's count to check. There are 15 apples.

And there are 12 pears.

Yes, 15 is more than 12.

Now let's find 12 and 15 on a number line.

15 is further right, so 15 is bigger.

Now count the oranges. There are 9 oranges.

9 is less than 12, so 9 goes further left.

In order, from smallest to biggest: 9, 12, 15.

On a number line, numbers get bigger to the right.
