Text Features: Headings, Captions and Diagrams

A short passage about the water cycle sits on a page as a plain block of words, and the video adds three text features one at a time: a heading above the text, a labelled diagram beside it (sun, sea, vapour rising to a cloud, rain falling back) and a caption under the diagram, with a tag naming each feature as it appears. The words "vapour" and "rain" in the text light up to match the diagram's labels, the features fade out and back for a before-and-after look, and the recap says that headings, captions and diagrams help you find and understand information.

What the lesson says
How could we make this short text easier to read and understand?
Right now it is just a block of words, with nothing to guide the reader.
Text features are the parts of a page that guide the reader, so let us add three.
A heading is a short title above the text that tells you what it is about.
When you skim a page, the headings help you find the part you need.
A diagram is a simple labelled drawing that shows how something works.
Its labels name each part, so you can match the drawing to the words.
A caption is the short line under a picture that explains what it shows.
The words, the diagram and the caption all tell the same idea in different ways.
Before, the page was just words.
After, the same words have a heading, a diagram and a caption.
Headings, captions and diagrams are text features that help you find and understand information.
