A short story about Maya, Grandpa and a hat blown into a tree is read aloud, and three boxes fill in to show its characters (who), its setting (where and when) and its plot (what happens). The plot is followed from beginning to middle to end: the middle sentence is the problem, called the conflict, and the end solves it, before the story is read again with every part marked.
