A photo posted from a phone is stored on a server, and other people can take a screenshot or save a copy and send it on. Deleting the post takes it off your page, but the copies can stay, building the trail called your digital footprint (or digital dossier). So ask "would I be OK with anyone seeing this?" before you post.

What the lesson says

What happens to a photo after you post it online?

Say you post a photo from your phone.

It goes to a server, a computer that stores it and shows it to others.

Anyone who sees it can take a screenshot or save a copy.

Those copies can be sent on to more and more people.

Later, you delete the post, and it comes off your page.

But the copies that other people made can stay.

People may still find them years from now.

The trail you leave online is called your digital footprint.

It is also called a digital dossier, a file about you.

Before you post, ask: would I be OK with anyone seeing this?

What you post can be copied and can last, so think before you post.
