The video draws 1/8, 6/10 and 5/6 as shaded strips lined up with a number line from 0 to 1, with a dashed line marking one half. It shows why each is close to a benchmark (half of 8 is 4 and 1 is much less, half of 10 is 5 and 6 is close to 5, 5 is only 1 less than 6), then drops each fraction onto the number line to order them as 1/8 < 6/10 < 5/6.

What the lesson says

Is each of these fractions close to 0, one half or 1?

0, one half and 1 are handy numbers called benchmarks.

This dashed line marks one half, halfway from 0 to 1.

For one eighth, shade 1 of 8 equal parts.

Half of 8 is 4, and 1 is much less than 4.

So one eighth is close to 0.

For six tenths, shade 6 of 10 equal parts.

Half of 10 is 5, and 6 is close to 5.

So six tenths is close to one half.

For five sixths, shade 5 of 6 equal parts.

5 is only 1 less than 6.

So five sixths is close to 1.

On the number line, each fraction sits near its benchmark.

From least to greatest, they are one eighth, six tenths and five sixths.

To estimate a fraction like these, ask if it is close to 0, one half or 1.
