A child sings a little tune, and a sheet of paper becomes a three-line staff where a moving line writes each sound as it is heard: a high sound up high, a low sound down low, a short sound as a dot and a long sound as a long mark. The same tune is then written down and read back from left to right, ending on the idea that marks on a staff show high, low, long and short.
