Grade 6, Measurement and geometry
Coordinates: first quadrant
Read and plot points on a first-quadrant grid, using whole numbers.
Three levels
One skill, rising difficulty
Each sheet carries one level. The three are the same skill at rising difficulty, each named for what it practises.
- Level 1: Grid to 5
- Write the coordinates of each point as (x, y).
- Level 2: Grid to 10, some points on the axes
- Write the coordinates of each point as (x, y).
- Level 3: Plot the points
- Plot each point on the grid and label it.
Worked example
How the sheet explains it
The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.
Level 1: Grid to 5
- Start at the origin. Go across to find x, then up to find y.
- A: across 4, then up 2. A is (4, 2).
- B: across 1, then up 3. B is (1, 3).
Level 2: Grid to 10, some points on the axes
- Start at the origin. Go across first, then up.
- A is on the y-axis, so it goes across 0. Then up 6. A is (0, 6).
- B: across 7, then up 3. B is (7, 3).
Level 3: Plot the points
- Start at the origin for each point. Across first, then up.
- A (6, 3): go across 6, then up 3. Draw a dot and write A.
- B (0, 5): x is 0, so stay on the y-axis. Go up 5 and write B.
