An entrepreneur spots a need (house plants drying out while their owners are away), designs an idea as a product (a pot with its own water tank) or a service (someone who visits to water the plants), makes and tests a prototype, improves it, and sells it to customers. One loop diagram links the entrepreneur, the four steps, the customers and the money they pay. It shows the risk that people might not buy, and ends on the recap: turn a need into a product or service people pay for.

What the lesson says

What does an entrepreneur do?

An entrepreneur is a person who starts a new business.

First, they spot a need, a problem that people want solved.

For example, house plants can dry out while their owners are away.

Next, they design an idea that solves the problem.

The idea can be a product, like a pot with its own water tank, or a service, like someone who visits to water the plants.

Then they make a first version, called a prototype, and test it.

If a test shows a problem, they improve the design and test again.

When it works well, they sell it to customers.

Customers pay for it because it meets their need.

Entrepreneurs take a risk, because people might not buy it.

An entrepreneur turns a need into a product or service that people pay for.
