Grade 4, Operations

Divide by a 1-digit number

Divide two-digit and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number, with no remainders.

Three levels

One skill, rising difficulty

Each sheet carries one level. The three are the same skill at rising difficulty, each named for what it practises.

Level 1: 2 digits, each digit divides evenly
Divide.
Level 2: 2 digits
Divide.
Level 3: 3 digits
Divide.

Worked example

How the sheet explains it

The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.

Level 1: 2 digits, each digit divides evenly

  1. Divide the tens: 8 ÷ 4 = 2. Write 2 above the 8.
  2. Divide the ones: 4 ÷ 4 = 1. Write 1 above the 4.
  3. So 84 ÷ 4 = 21.

Level 2: 2 digits

  1. How many 3s fit in 7? 2 × 3 = 6. Write 2 above the 7. 7 − 6 = 1 ten left.
  2. Bring down the 2: 1 ten and 2 ones make 12 ones.
  3. 12 ÷ 3 = 4. Write 4 above the 2. So 72 ÷ 3 = 24.

Level 3: 3 digits

  1. 1 hundred cannot give each of 6 groups a hundred, so write nothing above the 1. Use 15 tens.
  2. How many 6s fit in 15? 2 × 6 = 12. Write 2 above the 5. 15 − 12 = 3 tens left.
  3. Bring down the 6: 3 tens and 6 ones make 36 ones.
  4. 36 ÷ 6 = 6. Write 6 above the 6. So 156 ÷ 6 = 26.
