Worked example

How the sheet explains it

The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.

Level 1: Different hundreds

347 < 512

  1. Both numbers have the same number of digits, so start at the left with the hundreds.
  2. Compare the hundreds: 3 < 5.
  3. So 347 < 512.

Level 2: Close numbers

468 > 462

  1. Start at the left. The digits match until the ones. If every digit matches, write =.
  2. Compare the ones: 8 > 2.
  3. So 468 > 462.

Level 3: Order three numbers

316, 561, 342 316 < 342 < 561

  1. Look at the hundreds. 561 has the most hundreds, so it is the greatest.
  2. 316 and 342 have the same hundreds. Compare the tens: 1 < 4.
  3. In order: 316 < 342 < 561.
