- Level 1: No bridging 10
- Add.
- Level 2: Bridging 10
- Add. Make a ten to help you.
- Level 3: Missing number
- Write the missing number.
Worked example
How the sheet explains it
The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.
Level 1: No bridging 10
13 + 4 = 17
- 13 is 10 and 3.
- Add the ones: 3 + 4 = 7.
- Then 10 + 7 = 17, so 13 + 4 = 17.
Level 2: Bridging 10
8 + 5 = 13
- Make 10: 8 needs 2 more, and 8 + 2 = 10.
- Split 5 into 2 and 3: 5 = 2 + 3.
- Then 10 + 3 = 13, so 8 + 5 = 13.
Level 3: Missing number
7 + 8 = 15
- Count up from 7 to 10. That is 3.
- Count up from 10 to 15. That is 5 more.
- 3 + 5 = 8, so 7 + 8 = 15.
- If you start past ten, just count on to the total.
