- Level 2: Regrouping once
- Add. Regroup when you need to.
- Level 3: Regrouping more than once

Worked example
How the sheet explains it
The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.
Level 1: No regrouping
- Line up the places. Add the ones: 2 + 6 = 8.
- Add the tens: 5 + 1 = 6. Add the hundreds: 3 + 4 = 7.
- Add the thousands: 4 + 2 = 6. So 4352 + 2416 = 6768.
Level 2: Regrouping once
- Line up the places. Ones: 5 + 2 = 7. Tens: 3 + 4 = 7.
- Hundreds: 7 + 8 = 15. Write 5 and regroup 10 hundreds as 1 thousand.
- Thousands, with the regrouped thousand: 2 + 1 + 1 = 4. So 2735 + 1842 = 4577.
- Regroup ones or tens the same way: 10 ones make 1 ten, and 10 tens make 1 hundred.
Level 3: Regrouping more than once
- Ones: 7 + 9 = 16. Write 6 and regroup 1 ten.
- Tens: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14. Write 4 and regroup 1 hundred.
- Hundreds: 6 + 9 + 1 = 16. Write 6 and regroup 1 thousand.
- Thousands: 4 + 2 + 1 = 7. So 4687 + 2959 = 7646.
