A simple map of Canada fills up one resource at a time, each with a symbol on the map and a line in a key: fish off the west and east coasts, minerals like gold, nickel and iron in the very old rock of the Canadian Shield, a wide belt of forest, and energy from oil and gas, mostly in the west, and from dams on big rivers. It ends by linking each resource to jobs in fishing, mining, forestry and energy, and recaps that different regions of Canada have different natural resources.

What the lesson says

Where are Canada's natural resources found?

Natural resources are useful things we get from nature.

Canada has oceans on three sides: the Pacific, the Arctic and the Atlantic.

Most of Canada's fish are caught in the oceans off the west and east coasts.

Around Hudson Bay is the Canadian Shield, a huge area of very old rock.

Its old rocks are rich in minerals like gold, nickel and iron.

A wide belt of forest stretches across the country and gives us wood.

Energy comes from oil and natural gas, found mostly in the west.

Dams on big rivers use moving water to make electricity.

These resources give people jobs in fishing, mining, forestry and energy.

Different regions of Canada have different natural resources.
