Stereotypes and Discrimination: How Unfair Ideas Hurt

A chain of three cards shows a group of people who are each different being painted as "all the same" (a stereotype, an unfair idea). It then shows one of them left out of a game (discrimination, an unfair action) and the harm that follows: feeling sad, alone or less confident, stress and lost chances. The arrows then break as three ways to help appear (get to know each person, speak up if it is safe, ask a trusted adult), and the video ends on the recap that stereotypes can lead to discrimination, which hurts.

What the lesson says
How can an unfair idea about a group of people end up hurting someone?
Picture a group of people who share one thing, but every person in it is different.
A stereotype is an idea that everyone in a group is the same.
It is an unfair idea, because it ignores who each person really is.
Treating someone unfairly because of the group they belong to is called discrimination.
For example, someone might be left out of a game because of a stereotype.
Discrimination hurts the person it is aimed at.
They may feel sad, alone or less confident.
Over time, it can lead to stress and lost chances.
You can help break this chain.
Get to know each person for who they really are.
If you see someone treated unfairly, speak up if it is safe.
You can always ask a trusted adult for help.
Stereotypes are unfair ideas that can lead to discrimination, and discrimination hurts people.
