A two-line page ("I see a dog. The dog is big.") is first read from the right, which comes out as "dog, a, see, I" and sounds silly. A pointer then reads it the right way, starting on the left, following a green arrow across each line and a dashed arrow down to the next line, with numbers 1 and 2 showing top to bottom and a recap that in English we read left to right, top to bottom.

Concept: We read from left to right and from top to bottom

What the lesson says

Where do we start reading on a page?

Here is a page with two lines.

From the right, it says: dog, a, see, I.

That sounds silly, and it makes no sense.

In English, we start on the left.

Then we go across to the right.

Now it says: I see a dog.

At the end, we go down to the next line.

We start on the left again: the dog is big.

We read the top line, then the bottom line.

In English, we read left to right, top to bottom.
