Three sounds go into three boxes one at a time, and an arrow sweeps under them as they are said slowly, then faster, until they join into the word cat and a picture of a cat appears. Then cat breaks back into its three sounds, a dot under each box counts them, and the recap blends the word once more and breaks it apart again.

What the lesson says

Let's listen to three sounds, one at a time.

The first sound we hear is kuh.

The middle sound we hear is aa.

The last sound we hear is tuh.

What word do these three sounds make?

Say them slowly with me: kuh, aa, tuh.

Now say them faster: kuh, aa, tuh.

The sounds blend into one word: cat!

Look, here is our little cat!

Now let's break cat apart into its sounds.

Cat breaks into kuh, aa and tuh.

Count with me: one, two, three sounds.

So kuh, aa, tuh makes cat, and back again!
