A ladybug sits on a rug under the sentence "A bug sat on a rug.", and the words bug and rug drop down into cards where each is said slowly, so their shared ending "ug" lights up and the two words get ticks for rhyming. A mug joins them because it also ends with "ug", a hat gets a cross because it ends with "at", and the sentence is read again with its rhyming endings lit before the recap: rhyming words have the same sound at the end.

What the lesson says

What makes two words rhyme? Let's listen and find out.

Listen: a bug sat on a rug.

Look at two words: bug and rug.

Say bug slowly. Bug ends with ug.

Now say rug. Rug ends with ug too.

Bug and rug end with the same sound. They rhyme!

Here is a mug. Does mug rhyme too?

Yes! Mug ends with ug, so it rhymes.

Here is a hat. Does hat rhyme too?

No. Hat ends with at, not ug.

Listen again: a bug sat on a rug.

Can you hear it? Bug and rug rhyme!

Rhyming words have the same sound at the end.
