A story page says "Picnic time!" and shows a child at a picnic with big dark clouds rolling in. The video adds two clues one at a time, the clouds in the picture and "I know dark clouds often bring rain", to predict rain on the picnic, then turns the page to "Rain!" to check, and ends on the recap "To predict, use the pictures and what you know."

What the lesson says

Here is a page from a story.

Let's read the words. Picnic time!

What will happen next in this story?

To predict means to guess what comes next.

Two things help me: the picture and what I know.

First, look at the picture. Big dark clouds!

Next, think about what I already know.

I know dark clouds often bring rain.

So I predict it will rain on the picnic.

Let's turn the page and check.

The words say, rain! I was right.

To predict, use the pictures and what you know.
