Worked example
How the sheet explains it
The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.
Level 1: With a picture
- Count the counters: 3.
- Count the empty boxes: 2. So 3 and 2 make 5.
- Dots and no frame? Draw more dots until there are 5. Count the dots you drew.
Level 2: Missing part
1 and 4 make 5
- Hold up 1 finger. Put up one more finger for each number as you count up to 5.
- You put up 4 more fingers. 1 and 4 make 5.
Level 3: Said another way
5 is 1 and 4
- Show 5 fingers. Fold down 1.
- Count the fingers still up: 4. 5 is 1 and 4.
