Three levels
One skill, rising difficulty
Each sheet carries one level. The three are the same skill at rising difficulty, each named for what it practises.
- Level 1: With a picture
- Look at the counters. How many more make 10?
- Level 2: Missing part
- Write the missing number.
- Level 3: Said another way
- Write the missing number.
Worked example
How the sheet explains it
The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.
Level 1: With a picture
- Count the counters: 8.
- Count the empty boxes: 2. So 8 and 2 make 10.
- Dots and no frame? Draw more dots until there are 10. Count the dots you drew.
Level 2: Missing part
1 and 9 make 10
- Hold up 1 finger. Put up one more finger for each number as you count up to 10.
- You put up 9 more fingers. 1 and 9 make 10.
Level 3: Said another way
10 is 1 and 9
- Show 10 fingers. Fold down 1.
- Count the fingers still up: 9. 10 is 1 and 9.
