Worked example

How the sheet explains it

The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.

Level 1: Write the number

340 506 = 300 000 + 40 000 + 500 + 6

  1. Each part fills one place, from the largest on the left.
  2. 300 000 + 40 000 + 500 + 6 = 340 506.
  3. No thousands and no tens, so write 0 there: 340 506.

Level 2: Find the missing part

472 318 = 400 000 + 70 000 + 2000 + 300 + 10 + 8

  1. The ten thousands digit of 472 318 is 7, so the missing part is 70 000.
  2. Check: 400 000 + 70 000 + 2000 + 300 + 10 + 8 = 472 318.

Level 3: Parts out of order and regrouped

25 + 40 000 + 13 000 = 53 025

  1. 40 000 is 40 thousands and 13 000 is 13 thousands. Together: 53 thousands.
  2. Then add the rest: 53 000 + 25 = 53 025.
