Worked example

How the sheet explains it

The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.

Level 1: Different leading digits

347 215 < 512 904

  1. Both numbers have the same number of digits, so start at the left with the hundred thousands.
  2. Compare the hundred thousands: 3 < 5.
  3. So 347 215 < 512 904.

Level 2: Close numbers

468 315 < 468 915

  1. Start at the left. The digits match until the hundreds. If every digit matches, write =.
  2. Compare the hundreds: 3 < 9.
  3. So 468 315 < 468 915.

Level 3: Order three numbers

316 204, 561 930, 342 478 316 204 < 342 478 < 561 930

  1. Look at the hundred thousands. 561 930 has the most hundred thousands, so it is the greatest.
  2. 316 204 and 342 478 have the same hundred thousands. Compare the ten thousands: 1 < 4.
  3. In order: 316 204 < 342 478 < 561 930.
