Six red and blue triangles, squares, rectangles and circles are sorted one at a time into a grid of four boxes, using two rules at once: colour (red or blue) and corners (corners or no corners). Each box is counted, 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 6 checks that every shape was sorted, and the video ends by naming the sorting rule, colour and corners, so each shape must match both rules.

What the lesson says

Let's sort these shapes using two rules.

Rule one is colour: red or blue.

Rule two: corners or no corners.

This box is for red shapes with corners.

This triangle is red, with three corners.

This circle is blue, with no corners.

Now sort the rest, checking both rules.

Count each box: two, one, two, one.

Two plus one plus two plus one makes six shapes.

Our sorting rule is colour and corners.

Two rules: each shape must match both.
