Using a clock showing 4:47, the video shows that the short hand gives the hour and the long hand is read by counting fives from the 12. On the way it passes quarter past (15 minutes, a quarter of the way round), half past (30) and quarter to (45, three quarters of the way round, one quarter of the hour left). It then counts on by ones to 47 and checks 45 + 2 = 47, shows the short hand is past the 4 but not yet at the 5, and ends on the time 4:47 with a one-line recap.

What the lesson says
What time does this clock show?
The short hand shows the hour.
The long hand shows the minutes.
The long hand takes 60 minutes to go once around the clock.
From one number to the next is 5 minutes, so count by fives: 5, 10, 15.
A quarter of the way round is 15 minutes, called quarter past.
Count on 20, 25, 30: halfway round is half past.
Count on 35, 40, 45, and we are three quarters of the way round.
One quarter of the hour is left, so 45 minutes is called quarter to.
The long hand is 2 small marks past the 9, so count on by ones: 46, 47.
The short hand is past the 4 but has not reached the 5, so the hour is 4.
So the time is 4:47.
Read the hour from the short hand, then count the long hand in fives and ones.
