Stacked addition with sums up to 1000, regrouping once or more.

Three levels

One skill, rising difficulty

Each sheet carries one level. The three are the same skill at rising difficulty, each named for what it practises.

Level 1: No regrouping
Add.
Level 2: Regrouping once
Add. Regroup when you need to.
Level 3: Regrouping more than once, some 2-digit addends
Add. Regroup when you need to.

Worked example

How the sheet explains it

The helper printed at the top of each sheet: one solved example and the steps a student follows, before the first question. Every number sentence in it is proven by the same checker as the answer key.

Level 1: No regrouping

  1. Line up the places. Add the ones: 2 + 5 = 7.
  2. Add the tens: 5 + 3 = 8.
  3. Add the hundreds: 3 + 4 = 7. So 352 + 435 = 787.

Level 2: Regrouping once

  1. Add the ones: 4 + 8 = 12. Write 2 and regroup 10 ones as 1 ten.
  2. Add the tens, with the regrouped ten: 5 + 3 + 1 = 9.
  3. Add the hundreds: 2 + 1 = 3. So 254 + 138 = 392.
  4. If the tens make 10 or more, regroup 10 tens as 1 hundred.

Level 3: Regrouping more than once, some 2-digit addends

  1. Line up the ones. Ones: 6 + 8 = 14, so write 4 and regroup 1 ten.
  2. Tens: 7 + 5 + 1 = 13. Write 3 and regroup 1 hundred.
  3. Hundreds: 4 + 2 + 1 = 7. So 476 + 258 = 734.
