A simple map of Canada is coloured in one region at a time: the Cordillera, the Interior Plains, the Canadian Shield, the Hudson Bay and Great Lakes–St. Lawrence Lowlands, the Appalachians and the Arctic islands, each in the colour of its kind of land. Badges on the map show where resources such as wood, metals, wheat, oil, rich soil and fish come from, and the video ends with the recap: mountains, plains, shield and lowlands.

What the lesson says
Canada is a huge country, but is its land the same everywhere?
This simple map shows Canada, from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.
We can sort its land into four kinds: mountains, plains, shield and lowlands.
In the west, the Cordillera is a region of tall, rocky mountains.
Its resources include wood from its forests and metals from its mines.
To the east, the Interior Plains are wide and mostly flat.
Farms there grow wheat, and there is oil underground.
The Canadian Shield is the biggest region, covering about half of Canada.
Its old, hard rock has many lakes and lots of metals.
Lowlands are low, flat land, like the wet Hudson Bay Lowlands.
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Lowlands have rich soil for farming.
In the east, the Appalachians are old mountains, worn down and rounded.
Their forests give wood, and the sea nearby gives fish.
In the cold far north, the Arctic islands have mountains and lowlands.
Canada's land has mountains, plains, shield and lowlands, each with its own resources.
