A pencil, a crayon and a paintbrush each draw the same wavy line on paper, making a thin grey line, a thick rough line with specks of paper showing through, and a wide smooth line of paint. A stamp then prints the same star three times, the stars are counted, and the four rows side by side show that different art tools make different marks.
