Sam's banana, T-shirt and phone are linked by dotted paths across a globe to a banana farmer, a cotton farmer and workers in many countries, showing that everyday things connect us to people around the world. Three cards then show what a global citizen does (learn how choices affect others, respect people who live differently, and act to make the world fairer), with a fair trade banana as an example of acting.

What the lesson says
What does it mean to be a global citizen?
Meet Sam, who is getting ready for school.
Sam's banana may have been grown by a farmer far away.
The cotton in Sam's T-shirt may have been grown in another country.
Sam's phone has parts made by workers in many countries.
So every day, Sam is connected to people all around the world.
A global citizen knows they are part of one world community.
Here are three big parts of being a global citizen.
First, learn how your everyday choices affect other people.
Second, respect people whose way of life is different from yours.
Third, act to help make the world a fairer place.
For example, Sam can choose fair trade bananas, which help farmers get a fairer price.
So a global citizen learns, respects others and acts to help.
